Winter Deck Builds: Busting Common Misconceptions

January is here, and while many Central Oregonians are still hitting the slopes and enjoying the winter weather, some of us are already daydreaming about long summer evenings in the backyard. If you’ve lived in the area for a while, you know that the warmer months are unfortunately not going to be here any time soon. Don’t let it get you down though, there’s good news too! Now is the perfect time to get a jumpstart on your backyard projects so you don’t have to waste a minute of your summer waiting for them to be done.

Winter Project Myths

You might think winter is a no-go for construction projects, but we’re here to bust that myth. Those who wait until spring are missing out on some of the great benefits winter construction has to offer. Let’s break down some of these myths and ease your fears about a winter build.

Material Damage

The first thing that comes to mind is moisture. What if it snows? Luckily, snow is a semi-solid material, and can be brushed away easily. We also have the benefit of living in high desert where humidity is often low, especially in the wintertime. Any moisture that is present typically dries out quickly. We’ve been working in this area for a long time and are experienced in navigating Central Oregon’s unique weather patterns. We’ll be sure to do all we can to keep your materials safe so that they last for years to come!

Weather Conditions

Worrying that the unfavorable conditions might compromise the quality of your project? We’re not! We work year-round and are used to everything from the summer heat to the winter cold. It’s all part of the job! We strive to achieve the same level of quality no matter what time of the year it is.

Higher Costs

Because of this season’s weather conditions, you might assume that building costs will be up. Again, we work all year, and the temps outside aren’t something we’ll upcharge for. In fact, we’re currently running a winter special! You can get 10% off your home project when you book in January. Whether you need a fence, deck, window replacement, or repair, now is the perfect time to get started on it.

Winter Project Benefits

Shorter Building Times

Spring through fall is our busiest time of year, so booking now is a great way to avoid a longer waiting list. More of our team is available and able to focus on your project which means we can be fast and efficient.

Easily get permits

If you’re looking to build a deck more than 30 inches off the ground, you may need a permit. Since construction is less busy during this time of year, you’re in luck. The approval process takes less time as there is a lower volume of applications. We can help you navigate what types of permits you’ll need and how to apply for them.

More time to enjoy your new project!

When the weather finally starts to warm up, you’ll be ready to grab your deck furniture, light the BBQ, and sip on a cold drink on your brand-new deck. Why waste a minute of our precious Central Oregon summer?

Why Winter is the Best Season to Build Your Deck

deck installation

Burr! It’s a bit chilly outside these days!

With winter still here, we can bet you probably aren’t spending too much time outside – or at least not nearly as much as you will be once the warm weather returns! With this in mind, wouldn’t you say that now is the perfect time to get that dream deck of yours built and ready? You may initially think that it’s a bit counterintuitive to focus on a deck project right now. Depending on what area you live in, it probably has a great likelihood of some more snow before the end of the season, as well as some pretty cold temperatures to still endure. Even so, don’t let that get in the way of you taking an advantage of this perfect time to get your deck together and ready for sunnier days. Oftentimes homeowners make the mistake of only thinking about getting their deck worked on when they are using it, causing them to miss out on spending time in beautiful weather and enjoy one of the best assets of their home in it. So forget dragging your feet and waiting till it’s nice outside to get your deck all put together – get it done now when you don’t have to miss it!
